How To Walk Your Dog Safely At Night.

by Hayden Milleron June 04, 2018

Here Are The Facts...

1.2 million dogs are killed on the road every year...

31% of fatal car accidents happen between 9 pm and 6 am.

Here is our guide to walking your dog safely at night.

1 - Stay away from the roadside.

Drivers are not paying attention to the road more than ever. One swerve could mean disaster for you and your pooch.

  • Plan ahead, avoid busy intersections and highways.
  • If you must walk along a busy road, keep as far away as possible

2 - Keep Your Pup On A Leash.

Your dog isn't aware of the inherent danger of busy roads. If Rover sees a cat, he may not look both ways.

  • Keep the leash short when near busy roads and intersections.

3 - Wear reflectors.

This is one of the most effective ways to be seen at night. Wear visibility vests and reflectors so drivers can see you. Here are some ideas to keep you visible:

**Never walk with dark clothes on!

4 - Be Alert.

  • Keep your headphones at home so you can hear incoming traffic.
  • Stay off your phone. Pay attention!

5 - Last but not least, avoid walking at night.

Try to get your walk in before dusk. It may take some planning but is ultimately the safest option.

Happy walking!
